Downing Creek Artists Open Studios

Chapel Hill, NC, November 12, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Diverse group open their studios to celebrate their work and give back to their community: Special showing of family heirloom paintings.

This holiday season will mark the 6th year for the Annual Downing Creek Open Studio Tour. What started out as a garage open house and art sale has grown into a yearly art walk that is hugely supported by the Downing Creek Community.

Diverse is the perfect word to describe this group - Beverly Dyer, Howard Schroeder, Cathy Boyd, and Rebecca Board. Art walkers will have a chance to visit each studio and enjoy Dyer’s watercolor and acrylic paintings and stationery, Schroeder’s wood sculpture; Boyd’s fused glass jewelry, and Board’s stationery and jewelry.

Along with the annual “passport” prize (a visit to each studio makes participants eligible for art prizes), this year the Downing Creek Artists will donate a portion of their proceeds to the American Red Cross Central North Carolina Chapter. The artists decided to develop a firmer sense of "neighbors helping neighbors" in conjunction with the Downing Creek Open Studios. Fellow neighbor, Toby Barfield, serves as the Central North Carolina Chapter Executive.

This year for the first time Howard Schroeder will also be showing the work of his father Howard S. Schroeder, a well-known Rehoboth, Delaware artist. Schroeder’s walls have been graced with his father’s work for years and it is with great delight that he plans to share it with the public.

Eclectic and energetic, this group of artist is looking forward to providing the community with a versatile art show and a festive holiday weekend Nov. 22 and 23, 12pm until 5pm both days.
