Thanksgiving Weekend Festivities Come to Independence Mall and the Historic District

As we kick off the official start of the holiday season with the celebration of Thanksgiving, Independence Visitor Center encourages everyone to Start at the Center and discover all that Independence Mall and the entire Historic District have to offer this Thanksgiving Weekend.

Philadelphia, PA, November 12, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Begin your Thanksgiving weekend activities at The Independence Visitor Center where you can always find a host of information on the region’s best events and attractions. Independence Visitor Center also offers Historic Philadelphia GPS walking tours, Breakfast with Ben every Saturday morning, and a gift shop with the best souvenirs Philadelphia has to offer.

Continue your weekend activities at The National Constitution Center which will host special Thanksgiving themed events throughout the weekend. Friday, November 28, 2008 at 12pm there will be a Thanksgiving Cooking Demo with Executive Chef of Max and Me Catering, Louis G. Chabot Jr, where guests will learn how to create a “Pilgrim’s Salad” with a small tasting to follow. Also, “Thanksgiving: An American Celebration” an interactive show of the interesting tale about the history of Thanksgiving, will show at 12pm and 2pm everyday Friday, November 28, 2008 through Sunday, November 30, 2008.

No visit to Historic Philadelphia would be complete without a stop at the home of America's most famous flagmaker, Betsy Ross. Starting Friday, November 28, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continuing every weekend through the holiday season, visitors are invited take part in a Historic Holiday Celebration at the Betsy Ross House. As always, Betsy Ross will be on hand to greet everyone that visits and joining her this year is a new character, Charles Weisgerber, the man who restored and opened the House to the public. Enjoy holiday favorites on the hammer-dulcimer, colonial crafts and refreshments all for free.

Beautiful and Award-winning Franklin Square offers yet another destination with a host of activities to complete your Thanksgiving weekend. Friday, November 28, 2008 Santa arrives to kick start the holiday season; during the day enjoy stories and at dusk watch as the park glows with sparkling lights for the holiday season. Friday, November 28 and Saturday, December 20 enjoy Free Colonial Holiday caroling where visitors can sing along with their favorite holiday songs.
