Survey Shows 52% Average Annual Growth in US Solar PV Capacity to 2012
Palo Alto, CA, November 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- After the US Congress renewed the federal investment tax credit (ITC) for renewable energy projects, and in the midst of the worsening global credit crisis and Americans heading to the polls to elect a new president, EuPD Research surveyed the solar PV industry about their expectations for the solar PV market. The results of this survey show anticipated growth in newly installed capacity in the United States from 200 MWp in 2007 to 1840 MWp in 2012 and a cumulative increase from 636 MWp in 2007 to 5182.1 MWp in 2012, or an average of 52% growth per year over the next five years.
“People are optimistic, but cautiously optimistic” explains Sarah Endres, EuPD Research Manager. Endres says the industry expects accelerated growth to be tempered by the worldwide economic downturn.
This finding will be among those examined during a teleconference on Tuesday, November 25th. The teleconference, “American Solar Boom?: Cutting through the Hype”, will focus on the development of market segments, including the utility segment, prices and price development, industry growth and market drivers, barriers and outlook. This one-and-a-half hour session will be led by Endres and feature more than 20 detailed data charts.
“We look forward to working with EuPD Research to deliver their research content through this virtual forum across several time zones” said Jon Guice, Managing Director of Research at AltaTerra Research, which is hosting the teleconference as an activity of its Research Network.
