Dan Pence was raised in the small mountain town of Mackay, Idaho where he worked on various ranches through high school. He worked his way through the College of Forestry at the University of Idaho by fighting forest fires for the U.S. Forest Service and at any other job that would help pay college expenses. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 35 years, including assignments in Idaho, Nevada and Montana. He retired from the Forest Service to do wild land management consulting and run an outfitting business. “Horses, Mules, Men and Mountains” is the first in a series of recent pursuits, with work progressing quickly on the follow-up.
