UK Good Causes Beat the Credit Crunch - Half a Million Raised

Online shoppers have raised half a million pounds for charities and good causes with fundraising shopping website www.easyfundraising.org.uk.

Birmingham, United Kingdom, November 15, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Financial success stories may be few and far between at the moment but fundraising website www.easyfundraising.org.uk is helping good causes across the UK beat the credit crunch with an innovative approach to raising funds.

Supporters of good causes registered with the charity shopping website have generated a massive £500,000 in donations, despite the economic climate, simply by shopping online.

As people tighten their belts, charitable organisations are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain levels of fundraising, with a recent survey of charity chief executives released by the Charities Aid Foundation and the Association of Chief Executives of the Voluntary Sector showing almost a third of the charities surveyed have seen individual donations fall over the last 12 months.

www.easyfundraising.org.uk features links to over 600 well known online retailers including Argos, Next, Amazon, M&S, eBay, Woolworths, Direct Line, Screwfix, Interflora, Staples, Expedia and many more. When shoppers make a purchase, a free cash donation is generated for the shopper’s chosen good cause.

easyfundraising’s Becky Coleman explains how the site offers large and small organisations alike a simple and effective way to raise money despite the credit crunch: “Asking supporters to donate again and again is difficult at the best of times, but particularly as money becomes tighter. The beauty of easyfundraising is that supporters don’t need to put their hands in their pockets to raise funds.

“With Christmas is just around the corner, more shoppers are turning to the web to find better deals, and with 78% of shoppers intending to buy presents online this year, what better way for charities and good causes to recoup dwindling donations.”

Ms Coleman continued: “Just by purchasing items online as they normally would, supporters raise funds at no additional cost. And as many retailers we feature offer recession-busting online deals and money saving eVouchers exclusive to easyfundraising, supporters can get a great deal themselves and make their shopping really count this Christmas.”

Organisations using easyfundraising include the Scottish Pre-school Play Association (SPPA), Scotland's largest voluntary sector provider of support services to community led childcare organisations.

Mags Harwood, SPPA Membership Development Officer, said: “SPPA are delighted at the number of our member groups who have benefitted from using easyfundraising already. It is always difficult for voluntary sector organisations to remain viable and continue to develop and enhance services for their members; the donations from easyfundraising have made this more achievable.”

Colin Barrett, trustee of Little Hearts Matter, the national voice for families of children affected by single ventricle heart disease, feels easyfundraising offers a financial lifeline:“easyfundraising provides Little Hearts Matter with a regular income stream and takes advantage of an ever-increasing trend of web shopping and searching. With easyfundraising everyone wins. We gain by encouraging our supporters to use this free service and supporters gain by having access to exclusive, money-saving offers, a real bonus during the credit crunch.”

easyfundraising also features a new a product comparison service. Price Checker compares thousands of products and prices from easyfundraising retailers, allowing shoppers to save money while continuing to help their chosen cause.

And as well as their online shopping service, easyfundraising have developed a ground-breaking charity search engine. Just by using www.easysearch.org.uk to search the web instead of Google, every search supporters make generates a small donation. One supporter making just 10 searches a day with easysearch can raise around £20 per year for their chosen cause. Over 6 million searches have already been made through easysearch.

easyfundraising and easysearch present organisations with a simple and effective way to raise funds - in spite of the current economic problems. Both are completely free services. Charities, good causes and non profit organisation can register to use easyfundraising and easysearch, including schools and nurseries, sports clubs, youth groups such as brownies and scouts, community groups, churches and individuals undertaking sponsored events and challenges.
