Sobegayinfo.com to Recognize Flag-Flying Miami Beach Businesses
Miami Beach, FL, November 15, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Sobegayinfo.com is kicking off its "I Fly the Flag With Pride" campaign to coincide with a new Miami Beach resolution that legalizes the flying of the gay rainbow pride flag within city borders.
Until September 10, 2008, Miami Beach businesses could not legally fly the rainbow flag due to a vaguely written city ordinance that prohibits businesses from flying flags having a "commercial message". This prohibition ended when Miami Beach city commissioners agreed unanimously that the rainbow flag could legally be raised above gay and gay-friendly businesses. The clarification of the law resulted from the hard work of the Miami Beach Gay Business Development Ad Hoc Committee and Mayor Matti Bower, a proponent for equality for all Miami Beach residents.
This past Monday, November 10, 2008, the first rainbow flags made their appearance in Miami Beach. A gathering of 50 to 100 people met at Miami Beach City Hall to witness the rainbow flag being raised on the City Hall flagpole. The group then paraded through the streets of South Beach as additional flags were raised at Score, Lincoln Theater, The Wolfsonian Museum, The Miami Beach Police Station and Twist.
Sobegayinfo.com applauds this action and will immediately begin recognizing those businesses that visibly display the rainbow flag. Any Miami Beach business may contact Sobegayinfo.com (info@sobegayinfo.com) for details about the "I Fly the Flag with Pride" campaign. Benefits include photo and media coverage of the business flying the flag and a free month of advertising on the web site.
"It is important that gay and gay-friendly businesses are able to visibly show their support of the GLBT community", said Joshua Head, owner of Sobegayinfo.com. "Gay and lesbian visitors to Miami Beach often have a difficult time determining which businesses welcome them. The rainbow flag is an internationally recognized symbol that quickly shows where we are welcome. I hope to see many more Miami Beach businesses take this important action to show what a diverse and welcoming community we have here".
Sobegayinfo.com is the only online resource that exclusively targets the Miami Beach gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) local community and tourists. The site provides information about Miami Beach news, hotels, nightlife, restaurants, businesses and attractions. The up-to-date and easy-to-navigate site allows readers to find the information they are looking for quickly.
