Anna Symington Named Executive Director, UMass Amherst Alumni Association
Amherst, MA, November 16, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The University of Massachusetts Amherst Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Anna Symington has been named Executive Director of the Alumni Association.
A graduate of the UMass Amherst Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 1976, Ms. Symington went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Plant and Soil Science from the university in 1979 and her Master’s degree in 1983.
Most recently, Ms. Symington has been Deputy Regional Director for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup, managing a staff who oversee hazardous waste site cleanups in Western Massachusetts. Over the past 23 years, Ms. Symington has held a variety of positions within the agency, including agency spokesperson and innovative technology coordinator.
Ms. Symington has been serving as vice president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, has served on numerous association committees, and is a Life Member of the association. She is a long-time resident of Western Massachusetts.
Having strong ties to the university as an alumna of both undergraduate and graduate programs at UMass Amherst, and having an in-depth knowledge of the Alumni Association and its endeavors to support students, alumni and the university, Ms. Symington is uniquely positioned to lead the association to new levels of excellence. In addition to her demonstrated leadership skills and success in strategic planning and implementation, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to building strong relationships between the university and its alumni, to help UMass Amherst reach its goal of increased state and national recognition.
"I am pleased and excited for the opportunity to serve as a catalyst to raise public awareness both on and off campus for the Alumni Association, and to be an advocate for the university”, said Ms. Symington. “This is a unique opportunity to bring my management skills and my commitment and appreciation for the campus and its alumni together, in supporting UMass Amherst in its goal of becoming one of the nation's most recognized public research universities."
Ms. Symington will assume the position of Executive Director of the University of Massachusetts Alumni Association at the end of December 2008.
