The Breast Cancer Site’s Eighth Anniversary a Success, Money Raised for Free Mammograms
Seattle, WA, November 16, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Breast Cancer Site celebrated its Eighth Anniversary in October by funding 1,488 free mammograms for women in need, the highest total for any one month in 2008.
The Breast Cancer Site’s visitors clicked more than 10 million times on the big pink button to pay for 742.8 free mammograms for women in need (clicks were paid for by sponsoring advertisers).
Shoppers at The Breast Cancer Site also stocked up on goods ranging from pink ribbon socks to handcrafted fair trade items from women’s cooperatives around the world. A percentage of each purchase supported the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s program, providing an additional 746 free mammograms.
In recent years, The Breast Cancer Site has also worked with the Mayo Clinic to fund research into a cure through the site’s Gifts That Give More™ program. At the beginning of October, The Breast Cancer Site donated $75,000 to Mayo to completely underwrite the salary of a breast cancer researcher for the second year in a row.
The Breast Cancer Site continues its good work with a new $20,000 challenge to its loyal visitors. If the Click to Give™ total funds 300 or more mammograms in the next month, The Breast Cancer Site will donate an additional $20,000 to breast cancer research.
More On The Breast Cancer Site
Launched in October 2000, The Breast Cancer Site provides funding for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s free mammogram program and for breast cancer research through three important channels: the company’s innovative Click to Give™ program, direct donations through Gifts That Give More™, and contributions paid for by items sold through the Breast Cancer Site’s store.
The Click to Give™ program allows visitors to the Breast Cancer Site to provide funding for free mammograms by simply clicking on the pink button located at the top of the homepage (www.thebreastcancersite.com). Clicking is free for visitors. Each Click to Give™ on the site’s homepage is paid for by sponsor advertisers and 100% of this ad revenue goes directly to support the work of the charities listed on the site.
Further funding for free mammograms and other projects comes from the sale of items such as pink ribbon clothing and jewelry at The Breast Cancer Site’s store.
In 2007, working with its charity partner the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the site provided funding for 7,151 mammograms for low income, uninsured, and working poor women throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The outcomes for 2008 are expected to be even higher.
From January through June 2008, 3,263 free mammograms were paid for through the Click to Give™ program and shopping at the site for an average of approximately 271 mammograms per month.
