Denver, CO, June 06, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Registration is now open for the Rocky Mountain Region’s Premier Bioscience Conference and Expo, BioWest 2006 – http://www.BioWestConference.com . More than 750 participants are expected at this year’s event, August 23-24, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. America’s “Cowboy Poet” Baxter Black and NPR Science Friday® host Ira Flatow are the headliners for BioWest 2006, along with the presentation, “Where Innovation Happens” from Federal Reserve Executive Michael Orlando.

The announcement is made by Denise Brown, Executive Director of the Colorado BioScience Association, who says Ira Flatow, the host of NPR Science Friday ( http://www.sciencefriday.com ) will keynote the luncheon on August 23 and will share the trials and tribulations of presenting science to the public. Baxter Black ( http://www.baxterblack.com ), also of NPR fame and noted cowboy, poet and humorist, will keynote the August 24 CBSA Annual Awards Dinner – tickets may be purchased on the BioWest website.

Also on the August 24 program is Michael Orlando, Vice President, Branch Executive and Economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Denver Branch who will present his research on Where Innovation Happens. “You might be surprised what locations are high on the list,” says Brown. The complete BioWest 2006 program schedule is found at http://www. BioWestConference.com/ProgramSchedule.htm .

Colorado’s bioscience opinion leaders attend BioWest. “BioWest is the top event in the Rocky Mountain Region for biotech and medical device companies,” says Kevin Smith, President of Gambro, Inc. “It is a good opportunity for Gambro to network with other companies and learn about the issues affecting the landscape of the biotech industry.” According to Eric Bergeson, Vice President of Operations for Amgen Colorado, "BioWest gives industry leaders, start-up companies and interested observers the opportunity to learn more about the latest developments in life sciences in Colorado - it's exciting to learn about the momentum of the industry and what it might yield for the ultimate beneficiaries, particularly people fighting serious illnesses."

BioWest 2006 will again feature the Venture Showcase competition where seven emerging bioscience companies from the Rocky Mountain region will present their business plans to a panel of national venture firms. One company will be chosen the winner, receiving the $10,000 Faegre & Benson Venture Showcase Award during the CBSA Annual Awards Dinner.

“Because Colorado has a significant number of mature bioscience companies, those attending will hear the pitches that investment analysts hear during the Biowest Investor Forum. Five companies that have received between $30 and $50 million in funding will present their clinical trials findings and market plans at Bio’West 2006,” Brown explains.

Here are additional highlights of the upcoming BioWest 2006:

* AdvaMed, the national medical device industry association, and Ernst & Young will preview what to expect nationally and internationally at the two BioWest plenary sessions.

* The Emerging Company Track is offered for start-up bioscience or medical device companies. Dollars Speak Volumes is the main message for these three sessions.

* The Operations Track targets more established companies, particularly operations employees of both biotechnology and medical device companies, covering pre-commercialization and commercialization operations issues that need to be considered for clinical and commercial manufacturing.

* The Regulatory Track offers three sessions in including Navigating the Challenges of PostMarket Compliance for the medical device industry, What’s Hot in Today’s Regulatory Issues for bio-pharmaceutical companies and Key Issues in Getting to Market in Europe.

* The Founder’s Breakfast on the 23rd brings together Eric Sondermann, a Colorado political pundit and Patrick Kelly, BIO’s Director of State Affairs to talk about the state and national elections coming up this November.

In addition to formal presentations, there are also numerous networking sessions scheduled during BioWest. The Expo Hall, with 80 exhibitors, will be open both days; the Technology Transfer Poster reception will be held in the Hall on August 23; breakfast will be in the Hall on August 24 and dessert and coffee will be served in the Hall both days.
