The latest release from Huron River Press, The Mouse Ate The House, a children’s book by Sheila Pursglove, illustrated by bily charley, has come just in time for the holiday season. The star of the book, Merriweather Mouse, has also begun to make live appearances at local events in Washtenaw County, delighting toddlers and young readers alike with his whimsical rhymes and stories of life in an elaborate, candy-covered gingerbread house.
Merriweather, Sheila and bily have already made their way to popular spots including Schulers Books Store, Cranesbill Book Store, Ann Arbor’s Artisan’s Market and the Saline Holiday Bazaar. With the 32-page book read aloud by the author herself, the events have proved to be fun for both kids and families, with bily’s fantastical illustrations brought to life by Merriweather’s bright yellow costume, big ears and attention-grabbing personality.
Upcoming events are scheduled at Christine’s in Dexter, Macy’s in Ann Arbor, Border’s Book Store, Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Whole Foods in Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum. These events are sure to bring lots of entertainment and laughs, as the Shira, bily and Merriweather help share one mouse’s journey through a house of gumdrops, chocolates and candy canes.
Like Merriweather Mouse, Sheila Pursglove loves Christmas candy. Building gingerbread houses with her son Alex was a holiday tradition for years. A writer since she could first hold a pencil, Sheila has written for magazines, newspapers and websites in the USA, Canada and England. A Brit by birth, she has called Michigan home for several years, and enjoys exploring the Wolverine state’s rivers, lakes, lighthouses, and communities.
Illustrator, bily charley is a Michigan native. He fondly remembers being read to as a small child by his father. Exposed to "all things cartoon" in his youth bily has drawn and painted for most of his life. When not engaged in his day job, he illustrates CD covers, creates wearable art and volunteers his time to the community.
Steve Klein from Huron River Press says: "The Mouse Ate The House is a laugh-out-loud family book. Merriweather Mouse is an adorable rodent that will have you cheering him on and gasping in his outrageous behavior. bily charley has taken Sheila's verse and brought it to life in this very funny story about a very curious mouse."
