Company Has Tail-Waggin’ Good Time Despite Economy

A pet-accessories company experiences increase in Christmas sales, as pet-owners pamper their pets despite down economy.

Oklahoma City, OK, November 21, 2008 --(PR.com)-- “We will run out of Bull Dog Bags before Thanksgiving, if this keeps up!” exclaims Mr. Trotter, owner and founder of Bull Dog Bag Company (www.Bulldogbagcompany.com), a pet-accessories company started in 2006 and located in Dallas, Texas. The fledgling company scored a hit with the popular Bull Dog Bag, a hip and functional tote for dog owners that allows them to carry things for their pet in one complete package. “I truly cannot believe how well we’re doing. I mean, look around: people are tightening their belts, and yet pet owners are still willing to spend their hard-earned cash on their dogs.”

In the weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday, Bull Dog Bag Company’s blog has experienced a surge in online visits, which has translated into an appreciable uptick in online orders.

“I’m like most people: I’ve been waiting to see what the Black Friday sales are going to be before I start to spend any money for Christmas. But the feedback I’ve been getting from some of our recent purchasers is that our products are something they want to get right now”, he explains. Which may be a good thing, because due to the increased numbers of orders the company is experiencing, some products may not be available in time for Christmas, should the current inventory sell out.

“I know it’s a crazy thing. I can’t explain it. I really can’t. I hope it keeps up, though. I’m not complaining!” Mr. Trotter beams.

A recent article on CNN.com seems to substantiate this trend among pet-owners. It states that the American Pet Products Association estimates Americans will spend $43.4 billion this year on their pets -- a figure that includes everything from treats to training -- despite the dramatic slowdown in discretionary spending. That's 26 percent higher than what U.S. consumers spent in 2004, the group said.

The article went on to state that Market researcher Euromonitor International, which tracks sales of pet food and accessories but excludes the cost of animals, grooming, training and other expenses, puts this year's animal expenditures at $23.9 billion. But the group forecasts the segment's sales are still on pace to grow more than 13 percent by 2013.
