Award Winning Poet, Cheryl A. Martin, M.A. Releases Her New Book, "Woman Reclining", a Compilation of Writing that Explores the Human Condition
Canton, MI, June 05, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Cheryl A. Martin, M.A. announces her newly released book "Woman Reclining" which captures the essence of living. Her words are inscribed in the reader's heart through poems about love, friendship, nature, animal companions and war. Her Haiku poems are as varied as her narrative pieces, yet, engage the reader with a picture painted with words.
Cheryl A. Martin an award winning poet has been writing her entire life. She has written extensively for various publications including the Detroit Free Press, and the Observer and Eccentric newspapers. Her writing has inspired many, and she enjoys crafting as much poetry as possible.
"Poetry teaches human values," she said. She believes that poetry needs to be explored by everyone, not just by those who love poetry and write poems.
Her style of writing encourages the reader to find a piece of himself or herself in "Woman Reclining."
As a degreed individual, Mrs. Martin enjoys teaching others how to write poetry. She finds that when she's instructing individuals on how to hone their poetry she's inspired to write more poetry. As a native New Englander, born in Rhode Island, she's spent time at the beach. She is extremely fond of the ocean and writes a lot of nature based poems. Inside her book you'll find her love of quahogs mentioned in a couple of pieces. She says it's always funny describing her favorite clam to students in Michigan as most of them have never heard of it. As an educator she feels that it's important to weave history and information into the classes that she teaches.
Mrs. Martin served in the military and writes war poetry which she bases on her experiences, research, and interviews with individuals who served during various wars and peacetime eras. She has interviewed many veterans from World War II and some from Vietnam and later conflicts.
"I feel that these individual are live history books with a story that needs to be told. Many of these soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are speaking about their service for the very first time. It's important to record their information and pass it on to the rest of us," she said. Her war poetry in Woman Reclining will inspire you to thank a veteran for his/her service.
Mrs. Martin has a lot of material to write about and enjoys every facet of her writing life. As a competitive writer she's won awards for her work and last year won the Literary Arts Award of Distinction through Artists Among Us 2005. She wrote her award winning piece "Woman Reclining" towards the end of the competition. At one point she felt that she was simply out of time and had writer's block and didn't know if she could compose another word. This competition selects artwork first and then has poets and musicians compose work that relates to the artwork.
"This was one of the most challenging experiences for me as an artist. I always wrote from my own experience and not that of others," she said.
"What's amazing is that I've grown as a poet and writer and look forward to writing like this in the future as well," she said.
"I've always encouraged my students and fellow writers to think outside of the box and to challenge themselves. I find that this technique has worked for me, and can work for anyone who wants to pursue a writing career," she said.
Right now Mrs. Martin is working on other poetry projects as well. She enjoys illustrating her work with her photographs.
Mrs. Martin has a Master's of Art's Degree from The University of Michigan, a bachelor of Science degree from Madonna University, an Associate of Science Degree from Madonna College, and Associate of Science Degree from Vincennes University, Indiana.
She's a member of Pi Lambda Theta, The International Honor Society For Educators.
