Innovatech Labs, Leading Materials Testing Laboratory, Helps Companies Adhere to Halogen-Free Manufacturing Standards Aimed at Protecting the Environment
Ion Chromatography tests deployed on electronic components to determine levels of halogens.
Minneapolis, MN, November 22, 2008 --(PR.com)-- www.innovatechlabs.com – Innovatech Labs, a leading materials testing laboratory, is helping companies adhere to halogen-free manufacturing standards. The vast quantities of electronic waste have led to concerns regarding the environmental and health impact of halogens in discarded consumer electronics.
The use of halogen-free materials is being driven by industrial initiatives and legislation aimed at protecting the environment.
Innovatech Labs is providing Halogen Free Testing for manufacturers of materials used in the electronics industry. The term “halogen free” does not mean that the material contains no halogens; rather, the material or product is assembled without the intentional use of halogens.
The IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries has issued a testing method for measuring halogens using ion chromatography (IPC-TM-650 2.3.41). According to the IPC test method, a sample is tested for halogens by bombing the sample in an oxygen bomb. The residue from the bombing is then tested using ion chromatography to quantify the amounts of chlorine and bromine, which are types of halogens.
Manufacturers within the electronics industry can deploy ion chromatography tests on their products to ensure they adhere to Halogen-Free standards.

About Innovatech Labs
Innovatech Labs is a contract materials testing lab specializing in materials characterization. Our rapid turnaround times (typically 5 business days or less) eliminate lengthy downtimes waiting for testing lab results for our customers in manufacturing. We pride ourselves on being our customer’s first resource for analytical testing lab services. We will help you decide which analytical technique best suits your needs. If we don't have that technique in house, we will help you locate a lab that does.
Innovatech Labs offers a broad range of analytical techniques in our testing lab, including surface spectroscopies (ESCA / XPS, AUGER, SEM/EDS), organic spectroscopies (FTIR, GC/MS), ion chromatography (IC), and liquid particle counting (LPC).
