Short Story Competition is a Laughing Matter
Independent publisher Smink Works Books invites entries on the theme of laughter for its third annual short story competition.
Melbourne, Australia, November 23, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Smink Works Books is looking for serious writers to submit stories for this year’s short story contest at the start of December, despite the competition being “a laughing matter”.
The contest is a laughing matter because of the stories it will generate. Both amateur and experienced writers are invited to submit their stories on the theme of ‘Laughter’ for the contest, which is the third annual competition to be run by the independent publisher.
Both Australian and international writers can enter and the theme is open to creative interpretation by writers. Smink Works Books publisher Suzanne Male says she expects a wide variety of tales. “The stories can include a mere laugh as part of the story, or be entirely about laughter,” she explains.
The standout stories entered into the competition will be published in an anthology. Short story anthologies entitled Peace Inside Peace Outside and Three Forms of Love have been published by Smink Works as a result of the short story competition in previous years.
Competition entries can be up to 1000 words and the competition closes on 1 December 2008. The first prize winner will receive $100, second prize winner $60, and third prize-winning story will garner $40 for its writer. There is an entry fee of $10 ($11AUD for Australian writers) and the competition will be judged by author of the Mike Felice series of detective-fiction novels and Writers’ Resource Centre chief, Anthony Santoro.
