Hutto Taekwondo Students Donate 175 Pounds of Food to Help "K.O." Hunger
Local tae kwon do and martial arts students at Massie’s Martial Arts in Hutto, TX recently teamed up with KOHunger.com and donated over 175 pounds of food to help support local food banks through the holidays.
Austin, TX, November 25, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Hutto taekwondo students at Massie’s Martial Arts sure know how to pitch in when people are in need.
Students of the local martial arts studio recently teamed up with KOHunger.com to sponsor a food drive to support local food banks, and were able to collect over 175 pounds of food in just two weeks time.
“I’m very proud of the work my students are doing to help end hunger here in Williamson County,” remarked Mr. Massie.
“We put this food drive together on very short notice, and it has been a great success. It just goes to show that you don’t need much in the way of organization to pull something like this off - all you really need are a bunch of people who are willing to chip in and help.”
In addition, students at Massie’s Martial Arts in Hutto Texas also recently participated in a “Spar-A-Thon” to help raise food donations for the food drive. Children from the 7-12 year old and Teens classes at Massie’s school sparred to see who could rack up the most points in tournament-style competition over the course of 90 minutes.
The students all received pumpkins for participating, and the students with the highest scores received the largest pumpkins.
The school held the food drive and spar-a-thon in conjunction with the national food drive efforts being organized through KOHunger.com.
As the founder of KOHunger, Mr. Massie said he had to set an example for the other schools who volunteered to hold food drives.
“The action was fast and furious,” said Massie. “At the end, all the kids were drenched in sweat, but they all had big smiles on their faces, too - because they know they’re helping out with a worthy cause.”
Massie’s Martial Arts will continue to collect non-perishable food items and personal grooming items through December 22nd. Donations can be dropped off at their Hutto location at 409 West Front St. #230 in Hutto, Texas.
