Anchorage Broadens Use of Internet-Based Software to Enhance Citizen Services
Permitting, Licensing, Inspection, and Cashiering Software from Infor Public Sector Help Create Additional Efficiencies.
Atlanta, GA, November 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Infor Public Sector today announced the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska Development Services Department selected Hansen 8 - Permitting, Licensing, Inspection, and Cashiering solutions to extend its current deployment of Hansen 8 - Code Enforcement. Anchorage embarked on a five year plan in 2005 to provide citizens enhanced services over the Internet. The additional government-specific solutions will further broaden the municipality’s use of internet-based software to allow for automated work assignments and to link code enforcement with building permitting.
Anchorage’s previous permitting, inspection and licensing systems were dependent on inefficient manual processes that created opportunities for errors in reporting. The process required a minimum of one hour per day, per inspector, delaying results by at least one day due to manual data entry. The municipality’s cashiering process required citizens to drive to local offices or mail in payments; each created delays in the payment process and inconvenienced citizens.
“Our previous computer-based system relied heavily on paper and prohibited us from efficiently managing our more than 13,000 permits and 47,000 inspections per year, and would not support our future growth,” said Jack Frost, deputy director, development services department and chief, code enforcement for the Municipality of Anchorage. “Hansen 8 from Infor Public Sector provides our citizens immediate access to permits and license information, and the system’s ability to connect and automate several processes will save the taxpayers several hundred thousand dollars annually.”
Hansen 8 consolidates 13 disparate systems into one and allows inspectors in the field access to real-time information via Hansen 8’s Internet-based DynamicPORTALTM. Inspectors are also able to upload the inspection findings through their mobile devices, eliminating unnecessary paperwork and enabling inspection results to be available to the staff and public immediately. Hansen 8’s DynamicPORTALalso provides automated customer tracking, multi-departmental permit monitoring and automatic route inspection requests.
The DynamicPORTAL provides citizens instant access to municipal services and also allows them to easily complete their business with the city. Permit applications, order status, payments, and inspection results are all available online 24 hours a day.
“The Municipality of Anchorage’s proactive approach to licensing, permitting and code enforcement will help streamline processes and elevate citizen service and communication,” said Bob Benstead, vice president, strategic planning, Infor Public Sector. “Hansen 8’s ability to enhance and simplify processes has a direct impact on its citizens’ quality of life and provides the assurance that elected officials are deploying the tools today to promote the city’s success tomorrow.”
The Municipality of Anchorage deployed Infor Public Sector’s Hansen 8 - Code Enforcement in December 2006 as part of a 5-year plan to provide increased services through the internet. Hansen 8 - Code Enforcement provided a return on investment in just 12 months and reduced the department’s case load 63 percent in just 6 months, allowing officers more time to work with the community in a proactive, educational role.
