Unsigned Players Have a Second Chance in the Independent Baseball Leagues
IndependentMinorLeagueBaseball.com offers a second chance to players not signed to professional baseball contracts. Prospective players released from professional baseball teams, as well as undrafted college baseball players, can join a prospect database which will be sent to independent professional baseball teams and their management.
Addison, TX, November 28, 2008 --(PR.com)-- IndependentMinorLeagueBaseball.com today announced the launch of its new independent professional baseball prospect database. Baseball players who want to become professionals for the first time, or those who were released from other professional baseball teams, now have another opportunity to continue their playing careers.
"I spoke with general managers across all of the independent baseball leagues," said Matt Mc Dermott, the founder of IndependentMinorLeagueBaseball.com. "One of the most often requested needs was a centralized, standardized database of prospective players. Most general managers, managers, assistant general managers, and directors of player operations said that they all received hundreds of phone calls each season from players wanting to play. Yet information they get is either never received or it is never complete enough to meet the needs of independent baseball management. Players often forget to include information which makes the management's job easy to determine if the player would be a good fit for the team; and sometimes players forget to include phone numbers or where they played previously."
Two databases exist. One is for players with previous playing experience and one is for players with no previous playing experience.
Each database forces players to include relevant contact information and allows players the opportunity to provide links to stats, videos, references, and other information which the general managers need to make informed decisions. Mc Dermott said, "Players have to realize how much competition exists for the independent baseball roster spots; and they need to realize that the reputation of the team's management is partially based on the behaviors of the players they sign. By providing links to stats, videos, and references a player increases the odds of being considered should his physical and baseball skills meet the acceptable standards."
College players who expect to finish their eligibilities this year, former independent baseball league players, and players recently released from the affiliated baseball organizations are welcome to join the database. The website also offers a membership section with how-to information for current players and recently retired players.
