A New Event for Moms
The secrets of real-life moms are now revealed. The hit stand-up comedy show, Mom's Night Out! is available for fundraisers and events.
Los Angeles, CA, November 30, 2008 --(PR.com)-- In a desperate attempt to escape from parenting, three stand-up comics told their husbands that they were leaving to go to work. Little did their families know that it was just a ploy to get a Mom's Night Out!
Appearing individually on Lifetime, VH-1 and HBO, they're currently selling out nationally with their scandalous and groundbreaking stand-up comedy show Mom's Night Out, based on their real lives.
On stage they disclose details about themselves that aren't usually discussed on the playground. "I've learned a great deal about parenting. I don't hit my kids anymore, instead I hit other people's kids," proclaims Stephanie Blum, the "Brooklyn mom" in Mom's Night Out.
"I had no role model for motherhood," quips Mary Kennedy, the "Boston mom," divulging how her upbringing affected her life. "My mother's idea of a family outing was a pub crawl across Ireland."
Recently, they began taking their act to corporations and not-for-profit fundraisers. After an appearance at The Del Martin Memorial Women's Education Series, their president commented, "You have helped us embrace women in our organization and empower them in our profession."
These three hilarious women believe that parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world and that moms need a break. "I don't understand how some moms spend weeks sewing their kids' Halloween costumes. I hand my son a Hefty bag and say, 'Get in, you're Trashman...now go get mommy some candy.'"
On stage, Laurie McDermott the "Chicago mom" reveals her newest way of coping with annoying parents. "End every sentence with a smile and they'll never know you're being a bitch," she says with a smile.
"We enjoy making audiences laugh at the things we all take too seriously," comments Ms. Blum. Audiences agree. “You three and a glass of wine make for a great evening. Thank you for being so funny!” raves Kathy Mayo, MD, OB-GYN, a recent audience member. Another mom, Anne Weinberg comments, "They're smart comedians that make real-life funny."
"Not only is Mom’s Night Out designed to captivate and to entertain, but women leave feeling empowered and not alone in their journey through motherhood," says Ms. Kennedy.
Mary Kennedy has a two year old girl and a newborn baby boy. Originally from Boston, she plays Officer Trudy Lange on NBC’s E.R. She was a finalist at HBO’s U.S Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen. She has performed on Comedy Central, SpikeTV, the USA Network and she’s a regular at LA’s Laugh Factory and The Improv. LA Weekly says, “Mary’s an actual Kennedy whose real life is even funnier than her more notorious political kin.”
Stephanie Blum is a former school psychologist from Brooklyn and has a nine year old, a three year old and a baby girl due this coming February. She was a finalist on CBS’s Star Search and Breakout Performer of the Year at HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival - her performance was chosen to air on HBO’s Comedy Minutes. She is a contributor to Child Magazine, Parents Magazine as well as the winner of New York’s Funniest Female competition. Backstage Magazine proclaims, “Stephanie’s smart observations, natural storytelling ability and apathetic coping skills are laugh out loud silly and very accessible.”
Laurie McDermott, a Chicago native is an award winning author of the new book, “The CEO of the House” and a mother of two boys and a girl. She entertains the troops at military bases in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong. She’s a syndicated columnist appearing in Parenting, Bride, LA Family and the Crayon Report. She can be seen on Disney, Comic Relief, Comic Divas Live and was recently selected to appear on Lifetime TV’s Mom Comics. The Tribune Co. raves: “Laurie’s an honest, belly-funny comic capable of making every mom laugh and cry.”
These women can’t wait to get out of the house. They’ll be on their way to your event faster than you can say, “Honey, you’re babysitting.” Because they’re never too busy to pass up a Mom’s Night Out!
