Brad Helmuth was born in upstate New York, in 1947. The youngest of four children, born of a poor "Dirt farmer" and his loving wife, he is related to the famous western hero, "Buffalo Bill Cody", (on his mother's side). Having a fairly normal childhood, his parents moved to Richmond, Virginia, in the mid-nineteen fifties, where his father passed away, and his mother was forced to raise her children on her own, which involved living in a part of the city where gangs ruled the streets. Having survived into his teens, he quit school and joined the Job Corps, (he was one of five youths, four black, one white, selected out of Richmond, Virginia, to participate in this program. Gang violence, and the death of a friend, caused him to quit the Job Corps and return home. At eighteen he joined the Navy, and after boot camp, he signed up for Viet Nam. He was involved in Special Operations, causing him to spend three years in "The 'Nam", returning, upon discharge, to a world filled with violence... Outlaw motorcycle gangs, rumbles, bar fights, love, heartbreak, drugs, murder, and prison.
