Validare Announces 100th Office-Based Surgery Provider Accreditation in New York State
Validare, Inc. announces major milestone with the Joint Commission Accreditation of Third Avenue Gastroenterology, PC in New York, NY. This marks the 100th Office-Based Surgery (OBS) client in the state of New York that Validare has guided successfully through the accreditation process.
New York, NY, December 04, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Validare, Inc. is proud to announce that Third Avenue Gastroenterology, PC, the office of Drs. Peter Kim, Eric Morgenstern and Jennifer Bonheur, has been accredited by the Joint Commission and marks the 100th Office-Based Surgery (OBS) client in New York that Validare has guided successfully through the accreditation process.
Third Avenue Gastroenterology, PC is a leading gastroenterology practice located in the heart of New York City. Drs. Kim, Morgenstern and Bonheur learned on October 3rd that their facility met all of the requirements and safety standards set by the Joint Commission and the State of New York. This important designation is valid for three years before re-accreditation is necessary. “We have always been proud of our commitment to patient safety and the importance we have placed on it. This distinction, however, required us to raise the bar even further. Without the guidance that Validare provided, it would have made setting up the internal steps to put the required standards and documentation in place very difficult” notes Dr. Kim, “Validare is a true champion for accreditation and was a cheerleader for us. The experience and background they share is invaluable.”
Achieving accreditation is an important indicator that a physician’s office focuses on patient safety. “Accreditation distinguishes an office as one that maintains high standards in patient care” comments Linda Ramputi, RN, Vice President of Accreditation Services for Validare. “We support living the accredited lifestyle every day and are passionate about helping physician offices through the process.” Accreditation can bring additional benefits to the OBS provider such as peer recognition from referring physicians. And, the accredited OBS can gain special status with health plans, some of which reimburse accredited OBS providers at a greater rate than non-accredited providers.
There are an estimated 2,300 physician offices providing outpatient procedures in New York State. The three accrediting agencies, The Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO), American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), report approximately 250 (combined) accreditations. The accreditation preparation and application process can take upwards of four months to complete. Validare CEO, Rock Rockett, PhD, understands the importance of starting early. “We have worked with over 300 OBS providers across the country. We’re very proud of our achievement to date in New York and remain committed to our advocacy of patient safety by continuing to guide physician offices through the accreditation process.”
Validare has consulted with more than 130 OBS providers in New York and is assisting a growing number of physicians every day. Accreditation recently became a high priority in New York State when legislation was passed mandating that all OBS providers using moderate or higher levels of sedation achieve accreditation by July 14, 2009.
