The Humility of Mary Shelter is a social action ministry established by the Congregation of the Humility of Mary located in Davenport, Iowa. It serves the greater Quad Cities area as well as surrounding townships. The Humility of Mary Shelter assists homeless and struggling families to stay together by offering support in the way of canned food, clothing donations as well as providing housing, educational support and social services until families are able to be self-sufficient.
In 1969 religious renewal swept through the Catholic Church after the Second Vatican Council and the Sisters of Humility were among the first communities to adopt a policy of self-determination. What may have seemed radical at the time was consistent with the community's founding philosophy that members would earn their own living and go wherever they saw a need. Today, each Sister of Humility is free to decide for herself which ministry she feels called to and is best experienced and qualified for based on her training and experience.
This self-determination has allowed the ministries of the Sisters of Humility to blossom as these visionary women can now use their personal talents and gifts in the service of God. Today you'll find CHM's in a diverse range of professions and positions that include library services, counseling, homeless services, medical assistance, education and multi-cultural ministries. Sisters are leaders, directors, administrators and management. Truly women with vision who can get things done.
LifeStyles Furniture and Ekornes are proud to partner together to help this organization and to raise donations this year for the Humility of Mary Shelter. For more information about the Congregation of the Humility of Mary visit their website at http://www.chmiowa.org.
