Firehouse Youth Centre, New Life Church & United for Families Join Forces to Help Children in Foster Care Have a Better Christmas Holiday

The Firehouse Youth Centre is organizing a toy drive, providing Christmas gifts to abuse and neglected children in foster care.

Port St. Lucie, FL, December 05, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Children in foster care throughout the Treasure Coast area will benefit this Christmas from the toy drive being coordinated between Firehouse Youth Centre, New Life Church and United for Families, the non-profit agency that provides support services for children in foster care.

Tough economic times are affecting everyone, and those abused and neglected children in foster care are no exception. Foster families are facing the task of keeping some sense of normalcy during a time in the kids’ lives when they have been uprooted and often placed in a home with strangers or distant relatives. Those older teens in foster care that are preparing to enter the world of independence also face a very trying time of transition. Economically, they are very rarely prepared to establish a residence on their own or to support themselves. The organizers hope that this toy drive will provide gifts that can be used by all of the various age ranges they serve.

“All three organizations have focused on providing positive programs and services that improve the lives of children in this area,” says Kelli Moore, Director of the Firehouse, “and at a time of year that is primarily focused on the family, we are so glad that we can provide a little extra happiness to kids who have been through difficult family situations.”

In addition to toys, UFF will also appreciate donations of diapers, clothing and gift cards for children that range in age from infants to teenagers. Gifts may be donated to the UFF Toy Drive at the following locations: United for Families on U.S. Highway One, Firehouse Youth Centre on Selvitz Road, Walgreens in Eastport Plaza, Perkins at Eastport Plaza, Southern Commerce Bank inside Walmart on U.S. Highway One, 1st People’s Bank at their Port St. Lucie Blvd and Gatlin Blvd locations, Linda LaVelle Salon & Spa in Stuart and New Life Church on St. James Drive. The Firehouse will also receive donations during their Christmas presentation at the Treasure Coast Mall on December 13, 2008 from 4 – 6pm in the food court.
