Ashworth College Announces Partnership with Non-Profit Dress for Success Atlanta. First Projects Kick Off in a Flurry of December Activities.
Norcross, GA, December 05, 2008 --(PR.com)-- This holiday season will be a bit brighter for many local women as a result of the newly established partnership between Ashworth College and Dress for Success Atlanta. Ashworth College, a global leader in distance education, announced its strategic partnership with Dress for Success Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization that assists disadvantaged women with both short-term and long-term career needs.
In addition to its longer term commitment to making its education programs available to Dress for Success clients, Ashworth has identified the Atlanta affiliate as the focus of its December philanthropy efforts -- a Fashion Accessories “Plus” Drive. Ashworth administration and staff will collect interview appropriate accessories as well as monetary contributions which will be specifically used to purchase needed apparel items.
“Partnering with Dress for Success provides a valuable opportunity for Ashworth to make a difference in the local community,” said F. Milton Miller, Ed.D. and Ashworth Vice President, Education. “We chose Dress for Success because of their closed-loop approach to helping disadvantaged women who are motivated to make a positive change in their lives.”
“Furthering their education can play an important role in when providing women with tools needed to land a job, Miller added. “It will be exciting to see these women start to cultivate long-term careers and we’re excited to be part of this important process.”
Throughout 2009, Ashworth and Dress for Success will collaborate on a variety of initiatives. Currently in development is a custom workshop created specifically for the Dress for Success Professional Women’s Group. The workshop will educate members on how education can help maintain a job and build the foundation for cultivating a career.
"We're ecstatic about this partnership and excited to be working with Ashworth College," Dress for Success Atlanta’s Professional Women's Group Director Janet Thornton said. "Ashworth has really embraced our organization and cause. We're looking forward to working together to improve the lives of local women."
“Our clients understand the value in completing their high school diploma or earning a college degree,” Thornton added. “Unfortunately, when you’re under-employed or working multiple jobs, time and money doesn’t always make this possible. Because Ashworth programs are both flexible and affordable, our clients now have greater options.”
The new Ashworth College Education Lab will make education even more accessible to Dress for Success clients with an on-site education center. To support the Lab, Ashworth plans to donate several computers and create the foundation for a highly visible facility where Dress for Success clients can be inspired to take the next step in furthering their career through education. The Lab also reduces barriers for women who currently do not own their own computers.
As an Ashworth student, a Dress for Success client will be able to access courses online, communicate with teachers and tutors, and study. Students can even participate in Ashworth’s Blog, Forum and many online communities – a great source of information and inspiration. Ashworth will also donate a library of course materials so that all Dress for Success clients can become inspired to further their careers and education.
In addition to Dress for Success, Ashworth College participates in other community service projects throughout the year. In 2008, Ashworth efforts also supported the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and March of Dimes.
“Giving back to the local community is an important part of the Ashworth culture,” said Melissa Maddox, Ashworth Business Services Manager. “While we will continue our support of various charitable organizations, establishing a long-term relationship with Dress for Success and developing on-going, multi-level programs is a great opportunity.”
