Senior Housing and Services Provider Ecumen Welcomes Jim Klobuchar to Its Changing Aging Blog
Pulitzer Prize Nominee and Adventure Traveler is a testament to successful aging.
Shoreview, MN, December 10, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Aging services and senior housing provider Ecumen, one of the country's largest non-profit senior housing companies, is pleased to announce that Jim Klobuchar, a veteran journalist and Pulitzer Prize nominee, will be a monthly contributor to Ecumen’s Changing Aging blog, a forum dedicated to sharing ideas, news, innovations and opinions that are changing the views of aging in America.
Changing Aging content is diverse, ranging from “Successful Aging Profiles” of people such as Jean Marino, who sky dived for the first time on her 80th birthday to new technologies helping people live independently to public policy discussions on transforming long-term care financing.
In 45 years of daily journalism, Jim Klobuchar’s commentary and reportage ranged from presidential campaigns to a trash collector’s ball. He has written from the floor of a tent in the middle of Alaska, from helicopters, from the summit ridge of the Eiger in the Alps and from the edge of a sand trap. He was invited to lunch by royalty and to a fist fight by the late Minnesota Viking football coach, Norm Van Brocklin.
As an energetic builder of communities, he has found a way to teach football clinics for women and to lead 500-mile bike rides. In the 1970s he organized a non-denominational church service in a hockey arena for Minnesota pro football fans who felt spiritually deprived before the noon kickoff at the adjacent Metropolitan Stadium next door. A few years later he organized the unthinkable--a weekend canoe trip for 90 teenagers in northern Minnesota. According to all accounts, all survived, including the leader.
He “retired” in 1996. His journalism since has included periodic commentary and reports in the Christian Science Monitor, among them his coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. For his reportage and writing, the Monitor in 2003 nominated him for the Pulitzer Prize in journalism. He also leads Jim Klobuchar Travels, which organizes adventure travel and more conventional travels.
