Unofficial Sundance Party List Creator Says 2009 is the Best Year for Brands at the Festival
One of the most coveted items for those attending the Sundance Film Festival is the party list. Party list creator Christopher Ryan works with brand marketers and PR agencies to help them in finding the right event for their brand to sponsor. He says this year is one of the bests to consider sponsoring an event, dinner or VIP lounge.
Los Angeles, CA, December 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Each year about this time, Christopher Ryan of Oceanside Entertainment starts getting the calls from publicists. “Will you be creating the party list again,” asks one publicist for a famous actor who will be attending the 2009 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
The party list, a document with over 23 pages, lists every party, cast dinner and VIP hospitality lounge held during the film festival. It is one of the most coveted items to have since it includes contact information to get on the guest list. However, not everyone can get their hands on this list. The private list is only distributed to select film and talent publicists, top film producers and a-list agents. Bootleg copies of the list were being sold on Craigslist last year for $500.
The list creator, Christopher Ryan, is a personal manager and event sponsorship guru. He helps facilitate brands that want to enjoy the benefits of associating with events that you see on Entertainment Tonight or read about in People Magazine. He has over ten years experience at the festival.
“This year might be the best time to sponsor one of the VIP Hospitality lounges, parties or cast dinners held during the Sundance Film Festival. The economy has forced some events and lounges to cancel. This is good news for brands as less competition for media attention means brands have a better chance of getting their message out and making an impact,” Mr. Ryan said. Variety reported this month that Motorola won’t be hosting their famous late night lounge event. Other scheduled events and lounges have been cancelled as well as marketing budgets are tight.
Christopher Ryan has advice for potential brands looking to have a presence at the festival. “If the event is not located in the Old Town area of Park City on Main Street, it will probably be overshadowed. Also, look for events that have been doing this for a few years as they know the territory,” said Mr. Ryan. One of the best events on Main Street is the Gibson Guitar Lodge featuring the new Associated Press Portrait Studio and live celebrity jam sessions. He is working with top events like the The Film Lounge, House of Hype and The Gibson Guitar Lodge.
Some brands have worried about the affects of a potential SAG Strike or possible boycott of Sundance by those upset with the Utah based Mormon Church’s involvement with Proposition 8.
“The good news is that many of the independent film companies back in April of this year signed interim agreements with SAG. This should alleviate any fear of any SAG strike affecting the attendance of actors at the festival,” Chris said. Any strike would take place after the festival.
Regarding a talked about boycott, he continues, “GLAAD and their Sundance event called the Queer Lounge plans to be there and they are encouraging not to boycott the film festival which has been incredible to gay filmmakers. The festival itself has stepped up to the plate by making sure any film shown at the Cinemark theaters in Park City, whose CEO donated to Prop 8, will have a second screening in Park City at another venue.”
This year, the unofficial Sundance Film Festival party list will be available on Facebook as part of a closed private group.
