In How We First Met, couples are interviewed live while an improv ensemble recreates pivotal story moments with improvised sketches and songs. The show is the brainchild of San Francisco comedian Jill Bourque, who is the evening's host and director. She's amazed at the show's continued popularity, "How We First Met is truly about the audience. Frankly, I thought we'd heard it all, but these stories continue to surprise and thrill us. From blind dates to booty calls, love comes when you least expect it."
The show's talented ensemble consists of improvisational actors Laura Derry, Paul Erskine, Scott Keck, Deborah Wade, and keyboardist Jerome Rossen. Damon Paiz is technical improvisor, creating sound effects and large screen images on the fly.
What began as a one-time Valentine's Day show at San Francisco's Bayfront Theater in 2001 has since played in dozens of cities worldwide. Over the years, the show has featured a wide range of couples, gay, straight, liberal, conservative, married 50 years, and dating three weeks, all celebrating through laughter what makes love happen.
