Sudlersville, MD, December 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Red Lion Press announces the publication of "The Chesapeake Gazetteer, Volume One, The Twenty-Three Rivers of the Eastern Shore" written and illustrated by Jimmy Reynolds.
The Chesapeake Gazetteer focuses on the rich history of the Chesapeake Tidewater region from pre-history through the beginning of the twenty-first century. The debut volume - an 8.5" x 8.5" full-color seventy-two page perfect bound book - is the first publication to ever list, illustrate and chronicle the history of all of the named rivers of the Chesapeake Bay's Eastern Shore.
In his first volume Reynolds brings to life Choptank Indian Queens and Confederate guerillas along with picaroons, marauding British Marines and clever Eastern Shore militiamen, and he explains through artwork and writing the tragic environmental repercussions brought on by four centuries of lax stewardship of the Chesapeake's ecosystem.
Reynolds, an Eastern Shore painter, muralist and writer, has researched the myths, legends and tales of his island home and produced a luminously illustrated and richly detailed account of the 'Shore as gleaned from diaries, letters, childhood memories and stories told by family, friends and neighbors.
Future volumes of the Chesapeake Gazetteer will focus of the American Revolution, the Civil War, Chesapeake workboats and forgotten lighthouses of the Bay.
