Wyndmoor Hose Company No. 1 Strives to Continue Community Involvement

Whether it is fighting fires or ensuring needy children and families have an opportunity to celebrate the holidays, Wyndmoor volunteers are near.

Philadelphia, PA, December 20, 2008 --(PR.com)-- After watching a news story about the flooding of a Montgomery County resident’s basement, which was filled with donated toys for underprivileged children, Wyndmoor volunteer firefighters were eager to learn how they could help. A call was immediately placed to victim Valerie Hines, creator of The Umbrella Program and founder of VHB Consulting Services, to learn what her most critical needs were as a result of the flooding.

When Ms. Hines explained that hundreds of toys were damaged and not salvageable, the volunteer firefighters immediately paid a visit to Toys”R”Us to purchase toys for the children. In addition, Santa, who happens to be a seasonal member of Wyndmoor Hose Company, volunteered to personally deliver the toys.

As a result, on Thursday evening, December 18, 2008, Wyndmoor Hose Company members escorted Santa on a fire truck to Stenton Family Manor, where Ms. Hines hosted the final holiday party of her week-long series. Santa surprised all of Valerie’s guests and was able to distribute hundreds of dollars worth of toys to children and families in need.
