Caldwell County EDC Announces the Purchase of an Undeveloped Retail/Industrial Site
A milestone in land development in North Carolina occurred recently when Caldwell County EDC and the town of Granite Falls purchased a retail/industrial site near major food services wholesaler, MDI and the new Wal-Mart SuperCenter. Direct ownership by the EDC paves the way for the economic development commission to move faster and compete more aggressively with similar commercial/industrial sites in other counties.
Lenoir, NC, January 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Caldwell County Economic Development Commission, Caldwell County and the town of Granite Falls recently finalized the purchase of a 66.5-acre retail/industrial site near major food services wholesaler, MDI, and the new Wal-Mart SuperCenter in Granite Falls.
Alan Wood, senior project manager of Caldwell County Economic Development Commission, explains the significance of the purchase and the future of land development in North Carolina. "We are very excited, because this is the first time we will have full control over the development and marketing of a dedicated commercial/industrial site."
Wood further explained that now the EDC can compete more aggressively with similar commercial/industrial sites in other counties by developing the land and recruiting businesses on a faster time schedule and not be delayed by other participants' schedules. "We will start site preparation work and begin the re-zoning process right after the first of the New Year," Wood continued.
A significant milestone in land development in North Carolina, the property will be annexed by Granite Falls, rezoned for the proper usage, with the necessary infrastructure being serviced by Granite Falls. A new road through the property will provide direct access to Highway 321.
Caldwell County EDC will market the site to light industry, transportation and logistics companies. Because the site is near MDI's expanding headquarters, the economic development commission plans to specifically recruit businesses that support the food services business. On the commercial side, the site's proximity to I-40 and the new Wal-Mart SuperCenter also make it very attractive for retail development.
