Waco, TX, January 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor released the unemployment figures for December 2008 and, with that, a complete look at 2008 and the deteriorating unemployment situation since the start of the economic recession in December 2007. Jim Sirbasku, Co-founder and CEO of Profiles International, the world leader in employment evaluation and human resource management assessment tools, reviewed the latest statistics to offer advice to employers and job seekers via an online video, available through YouTube and Google Video.

According to the BLS, nonfarm payroll employment fell in December 2008 by 524,000 and the unemployment rate rose from 6.8 to 7.2 percent. Payroll employment continued the declines of 533,000 in November, 320,000 in October and 403,000 in September as revised and totaled 1.9 million over the last four months of 2008. Job loss was distributed across most major industry sectors.
Profiles International released an online video in response to this trend in the national labor figures to offer advice to business managers who have a stake in their company’s staffing and placement decisions and individuals who have been laid off or are currently struggling to find employment. In the video, Sirbasku encourages using one’s best judgment especially over the course of the first quarter of 2009. The goal is to spark new conversation around the topic of the economy and its impact on the matter of employment by engaging online users and reminding them to keep a positive state of mind. Profiles also aims to make its expertise widely available to the public through the contact link featured on the video.
The recent unemployment figures make it clear that this is the time to offer employers and employees useful guidance,” Sirbasku said. “With unemployment still growing, we felt that it was important to let the public know that our experts are available to them for initial consultation at no cost to assist them and help them navigate safely and securely through the first quarter of 2009, which will be definitive in changing the course of our economy.”
The video was published online shortly after the BLS announced the unemployment figures for December 2008. This New Year, Profiles International will continue to make progress towards communicating with its constituents in swiftly and proactively.
