Nineteenth Century French Art Exhibit Opening at Erie Art Museum
“Charting a Century of Change: French Nineteenth Century Drawings and Sculpture from the Collection of Herbert and Carol Diamond” to open at the Erie Art Museum in the Main Floor Gallery.
Erie, PA, June 21, 2006 --(PR.com)-- On Saturday June 24, 2006 the exhibit “Charting a Century of Change: French Nineteenth Century Drawings and Sculpture from the Collection of Herbert and Carol Diamond” will open at the Erie Art Museum in the Main Floor Gallery.
The Diamond Collection of French nineteenth-century drawings and sculpture encompasses a range of works by artists both well known and obscure. The collection includes drawings by such notables as Degas, Corot, Ingres, Cezanne, Delacroix, Gericault and Rousseau, as well as sculpture by Rodin. The works themselves range from traditional to vanguard, exhibiting a variety of styles and techniques.
The wide array of works in the Diamond Collection aptly reveal a century of rapid change, as French artists enacted a struggle between tradition and experimentation by maintaining some aspects of the old order through traditional formal training in drawing while simultaneously moving forward with the pace of technology and innovation.
A reception for this exhibit will be held on July 14, 2006 at 8 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
The Erie Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and $2 for children under 12. Annex Gallery and Frame Shop Gallery exhibits are always free. The Museum’s Main Floor and Ground Floor Galleries are free to all on Wednesdays. For more information on this or any other exhibit contact the Erie Art Museum at (814) 459-5477.
