Flint Architect Ronald R. Campbell Elected 2009 President of American Institute of Architects Michigan

Detroit, MI, January 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The American Institute of Architects Michigan (AIA Michigan) announced the election of Flint architect Ronald R. Campbell, AIA, as its 2009 president.
Other newly elected AIA Michigan Officers include Alan H. Cobb, FAIA, of Albert Kahn Associates Inc. (Detroit) as vice president, Victor Saroki, FAIA, of Victor Saroki & Associates Architects PC (Birmingham) as secretary, and Douglas W. Kueffner, AIA, of Wigen, Tincknell, Meyer & Associates Inc. (Saginaw) as treasurer. Stephen E. Smith, AIA, of TMP Associates, Inc. (Bloomfield Hills) sits on the board as past president and Frederick F. Butters Esq. FAIA, of Frederick F. Butters, PLLC (Southfield) as regional director.
In his role as AIA Michigan president, Campbell will address a range of issues that are important to AIA members and the public. His plans include providing more services to members to assist them through current economic challenges and working with affiliate partners in the construction industry to improve the overall business climate in the state. AIA Michigan will also join its 10 chapters in their efforts to reach out to the community by serving as resources in the areas of green building, historical preservation and the creation of sustainable and livable communities.
“For more than 30 years, Ronald has given so much to Michigan’s rich architectural foundation,” said Rae Dumke, Hon. AIA, Executive Director of AIA Michigan. “We are pleased to welcome him as our president this year and are confident that he will continue to promote good design in our ever changing environment.”
Campbell is a principal planner and preservation architect for Oakland County Planning and Economic Development in Waterford. In this position, he is responsible for assisting communities in their preservation efforts and for the newly launched Oak Street program, which was started to strengthen communities by preserving neighborhood character. He also provides design and technical assistance to the County’s Main Street program.
Additionally, Campbell serves as an adjunct college faculty member at Lansing Community College, teaching in the Environmental, Design and Building Technologies Department. Previously, he served in private practice for 30 years.
Campbell is a career long member of the AIA, beginning with his involvement in AIA Flint, where he served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. His AIA Michigan honors include serving as director from 2000-2004, secretary in 2005, treasurer in 2006 and 2007 and vice president in 2008. He was instrumental in the creation of the AIA Guide to Architecture publication for AIA Flint, as well as other architectural guides throughout the state. Campbell is the sixth member of his architectural class at the University of Michigan to serve as president of AIA Michigan.
