Bifold Gates Take Off
Leda Vannaclip successfully installed the first Australian made Bifold Gate at a secured State Government location over a weekend in December 2008.
Melbourne, Australia, January 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The work was part of a security upgrade and the site’s location cannot be disclosed for security reasons. The specification for the vehicle entrance included the requirements of fast operation and increased security. Space constraints at the site also meant traditional options would be difficult.
The installed Bifold gate opens in 3 seconds across a 4.5 metre span. For comparison, Chris McCartin Leda’s Victorian State Manager states, “a typical gate would require 8 seconds and a roller shutter up to 20 seconds on the same entrance.” Large time intervals give pedestrians the opportunity to slip in or out which is common point of security breach. The speed of the gate is also a strong deterrent for tail gating which is another problem shared by vehicle access points.
In addition to the speed of the gate, there is virtually no noise to upset nearby residents. The bifold roller system was apparently designed with this in mind and standing next to the Bifold gate in operation, you can barely hear it move reports Mr McCartin.
Bifold gates were first developed in Europe over 10 years ago and is now starting to be specified here in Australia to save space, reduce noise and speed vehicle transit through a property boundary. Leda are already preparing to install another Bifold gate at a Federal Government Building in Canberra in early 2009.
