Twitter, Live Blogging, Streaming Video, and Other Social Media Tools Engage Communities throughout the World.

The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) California will join government officials, corporate executives and association leaders who support “technology serving humanity” to celebrate the historic Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama at the 2009 LINK-live Presidential Inaugural Gala, held at The Corcoran Gallery of Art, (500 Seventeenth St NW, Washington, DC), Tuesday, January 20, from 7:00pm to Midnight.

The Gala steering committee has invested extensive time and resources to be the most ‘wired’ and interactive of the Presidential Galas, and the only event with a live, streaming broadcast quality feed to other presidential galas around the US. The Gala will focus on the advancements of science, information and communications technologies - recognizing distinguished leaders for their commitment to science, technology and education in their area of expertise. The gala will include presentations of the prestigious Link Awards to: Hillary Rodham Clinton, Life Award; The Honorable Laura Chinchilla, Former Vice President of Costa Rica; the Information Award; Dr. Steven Chu, Nobel Laureate Physicist, the Nature Award; and General James L. Jones (USMC Ret.) the Knowledge Award.

The LINK-live program will be broadcast live from the auditorium at the Corcoran Gallery of Art via www.linklive.org. There will be five ‘official Link-live’ Presidential Galas around the US that will receive broadcast quality feeds from the DC gala in ‘real-time’, and can stream live video from their celebrations back to DC. Anyone from around the world can join the celebration online by going to www.linklive.org or use Web 2.0 communication tools like Twitter, ScribbleLive, USTREAM and Flickr to participate in the festivities. The Gala is expecting up to 17 million virtual participants.

Teray Stephens, President of NWPC-California, and a member of the Steering Committee for the LINK-live Inaugural Gala and Lulu Flores, President of NWPC national, will present the LIFE Award to Hillary Rodham Clinton. Stephens says the Gala will “make an unforgettable moment in American history even more exciting by bringing people together through technology – in real-time - around the world.”
