Portland, OR, January 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Today, the Portland-Guadalajara Sister City Association (PGSCA) announced an opportunity to give a unique and enduring gift to loved one this Valentine’s Day. Beginning now through Feb. 14, 2009, the PGSCA invites the public to sponsor a “Rose in Guadalajara.”
A tax-deductible donation of $50 or more in the name of one’s self, a loved one or a colleague will support maintenance of a rose bush in Jardin Portland, a PGSCA parks project in Guadalajara, Mexico, that will highlight Portland internationally as model for landscape design, environmental sustainability, and cultural, educational and economic exchange.
The planting of Jardin’s first phase culminated on Feb. 14, 2008, with the planting of two beautiful rose gardens that symbolize the connection between the cultures of Guadalajara and Portland, both known as “Rose Cities.” A nameplate in the gardens will highlight the donor or honoree’s dedication to the environment, appreciation of cultural diversity and pride in the Portland region for generations to come.
The Jardin, slated for completion in 2011 (concurrent with the Pan American Games, to be held in Guadalajara that year), will boast the Verde Learning Center, a hands-on learning lab that will share green building and living practices with the park’s one million annual visitors. The park will also host replicas of cherished regional features, including a mini Multnomah Falls, an amphitheater modeled after Pioneer Square to be used for performances and events, and a replica of the Salmon Street Fountain. The park will also showcase works by Portland artists.
To take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give a Valentine’s Day gift that crosses borders and unites cultures, interested parties may visit www.jardinportland.com or call 503-232-7550. Group gift and corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available.
