Wausau Paper Selects Nexus Distribution for Midwest Hub, Creating Jobs in Illinois
Bedford Park, IL, January 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Logistics Provider Nexus Distribution selected to open Midwest U.S. Distribution Center for Wausau Paper (NYSE:WPP). Further enhancing service to customers of its Printing & Writing segment, Wausau Paper selected Nexus Distribution’s facility in Bedford Park, IL as the location for its new Printing & Writing distribution hub. Bedford Park, a southwestern suburb of Chicago near interstates 55 and 294, was chosen for its proximity to key Midwest commercial printing markets and merchant distribution partners. The Wausau Paper Midwest distribution hub will create approximately 50 to 60 new jobs in the state of Illinois, and in Cook County specifically.
The Nexus warehousing and logistics facility provides the benefits of the latest energy efficient lighting and distribution technology, the ability to utilize intermodal rail, and Nexus’ strategic load consolidation programs. Transitional operations will begin shortly and once fully operational in mid-2009, Overnight and Same-Day delivery service will be available to an increased number of Wausau’s central U.S. customers. Customers in areas of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky and Tennessee will enjoy shorter transit times than were achievable from Wausau’s former distribution center in Wisconsin.
This follows Nexus’ successful opening of Wausau’s Northeast distribution center in Allentown, PA early in the spring of 2008. The opening of the Midwest distribution hub along with Wausau’s three other regional distribution centers will enable delivery within 24 hours to most top print markets within the U.S.
“Establishing this centralized distribution hub emphasizes our continued commitment to the commercial printing industry, merchant distribution partners, and retail customers by further enhancing the high level of service we provide through our ‘Think Service’ program,” said Daniel R. Trettin, senior vice president for Printing & Writing. “In addition, the new distribution hub will reduce transportation and operating costs, helping us to maintain and achieve further important financial targets for our business.”
To foster economic growth for the State, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is administering a business investment package which assisted Nexus in earning Wausau Paper’s business.
“Illinois is the perfect location for companies looking to stay ahead of the curve,” said Jack Lavin, director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. “Through our work with Nexus Distribution Corporation, we’re helping to ensure the company can remain innovative and flexible, which is an absolute necessity in our increasingly global economy. We are pleased that Nexus Distribution and Wausau Paper plan to create up to 60 new jobs here in Illinois.”
“We are excited to serve Wausau Paper in Bedford Park and we look forward to providing the Nexus brand of 3PL services to this successful Midwestern company,” said Dan Hamilton, Nexus president. Wausau Paper is recognized by its customers as a service leader, and we are honored that Wausau has entrusted Nexus to continue the tradition. Altogether, the solution we’ve developed is focused on service, natural resource conservation, and maximizing productivity. Our whole team is thrilled about the opportunity and looking forward to the implementation.”
