AIIP to Honor Special Libraries Association Past President: SLA's Stephen Abram to Address Independent Info Pros
Baton Rouge, LA, February 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP) has announced that it will honor Special Libraries Association (SLA) Past President Stephen Abram with AIIP's Roger Summit Award for 2009. The award will be presented to Abram at AIIP’s 23rd Annual Conference in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 28.
The award, given by the Past Presidents of AIIP, is presented to "an individual who will inspire and challenge AIIP members, thus contributing to our continuing education and development." The award is named after Roger Summit, founder of Dialog, the world's first online, multi-database information retrieval system to be used globally.
Abram, the 10th person to be awarded this prestigious designation by AIIP, will attend and speak at the annual conference. His talk is titled "Will All Info Pros Be Private Practice?"
“Throughout his governing positions in information organizations, and corporate positions such as his current role as Chief Innovation Officer at SirsiDynix, Mr. Abram encourages information professionals to actively think about the future of the information profession,” said Jane John, immediate past-president of AIIP. “Having read or heard his presentations, writings, and blogs, the past presidents of AIIP felt Mr. Abram would have interesting insight on the theme of independents in the knowledge economy, especially in these challenging economic times.”
Abram was 2008 President of SLA and is a past president of the Canadian and Ontario Library Associations. He is vice president of innovation for SirsiDynix and chief strategist for the SirsiDynix Institute. Library Journal named Abram one of the top 50 people influencing the future of libraries. He has received numerous honors and regularly speaks internationally. His columns appear in Information Outlook, Multimedia and Internet @ Schools, and SirsiDynix OneSource. He is the author of ALA Editions’ bestselling Out Front with Stephen Abram. He blogs at the popular Stephen's Lighthouse (http://stephenslighthouse.sirsidynix.com/).
