Wynnewood, PA, February 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Hollister Kids Offers Current-Events Teaching Materials for Black History Month
Hollister Kids is celebrating Black History Month by offering teachers and parents an array of current-events teaching materials that connect the news of today with the Black History lessons of the past.

Materials range from a current-events feature written live off the news each week of February to a selection of 16-page teaching packets that explore themes of Black History while teaching students the value of newspapers, magazines and Internet Web sites as learning resources.

Hollister Kids is the educational division of Hollister Creative and a nationally honored creator of education materials that connect with news and current events.

The live current-events feature includes four units designed for use with printed newspapers, newspaper Web sites or other Internet news sites.
Each unit engages students with a 450-word news story examining an issue important to African Americans or profiling an African American making news through leadership or achievement.

To spark discussion and further learning, each installment includes a follow-up question that can also be used as a writing or discussion prompt, and activities that explore the week’s topic in the pages of the daily newspaper, in news magazines or on the Internet.

The features are delivered digitally in pdf format and for individual parents and teachers cost $1.25 per unit, or $5 for the pack of four. Materials may be ordered through the Contact Us link at the top of the Hollister Kids Web site at www.hollisterkids.com or by emailing contactus@hollisterkids.com.

The 16-page teaching packets are themed curriculum units that explore various aspects of Black History and connect with current events through newspapers, magazines and Web sites.

The packet titled “Living Black History,” for example, puts the election of Barack Obama as president into context with achievements by African Americans in other fields in recent years.

Other titles include: “African American Healers,” “Black History: Journey of Inspiration,” “Civil Rights,” “Freedom’s Warriors,” “Mothers of the Movement,” “The Underground Railroad,” and “Triumph of the Spirit.”

“Triumph of the Spirit” is targeted for elementary grades and the others for upper elementary through high school.

The curriculum packets are delivered digitally in pdf format and cost $4.99 per unit for individual teachers or parents. Materials may be ordered through the Contact Us link at the top of the Hollister Kids Web site at www.hollisterkids.com or by emailing contactus@hollisterkids.com.

Hollister Kids creates custom educational materials nationally for foundations, corporations, non-profit organizations, museums and sports teams and syndicates a catalog of 75 original curriculum packages to newspapers across the country.

Hollister Kids materials have been used by 95 of the top 100 newspapers in America, by circulation.
