Area Training for Disaster Relief Inspectors for FEMA

Atlanta, GA, February 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- ASHI Georgia, a chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors, and PaRR, Partnership for Response and Recovery, a FEMA Disaster Housing Contractor, are pleased to announce a training session for Atlanta area home inspectors. PaRR is committed to serving disaster victims, FEMA’s ultimate clients, through fair and accurate implementation of the Individuals and Households Program, by providing high quality, timely, FEMA housing inspections and related services. PaRR is very excited about the opportunity to continue its high level of service to FEMA and remain in a position to assist the victims of federally declared disasters. ASHI Georgia, the sponsor of the event, is proud to be in partnership for this training with PaRR.

The training will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 at 8:00 AM at the Gwinnett Convention Center. It will provide private inspectors introductory training and certification for federal disaster recovery inspections. Over 60 inspectors from Georgia and the southeast have registered for the event.

The FEMA Disaster Housing Program provides grants for primary residents (owners and renters) whose houses have been damaged as a result of a disaster and who have inadequate or no insurance coverage. These grants are for alternate housing rentals and/or home repairs to restore the home to a safe, sanitary, and secure condition. The grants may include the reimbursement of temporary accommodations incurred as a result of the disaster.

Housing Inspection Services involve collecting and reporting required information from applicants whose houses have been damaged by disasters. A wide range of information is collected during the inspection, e.g., physical damage to the house, ownership, occupancy, insurance, personal property losses, recommendations on mitigation measures, photographs, and other essential information regarding disaster-related expenses and/or existing needs. FEMA then determines the type and amount of financial assistance the applicants are eligible for based on the information that is collected and recorded on pen-based computers by PaRR Inspectors during physical home inspections.
