Green Initiatives Help EssentiaLink Prepare for Tough Economy

Boulder, CO, February 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Over a year ago EssentiaLink’s CEO Bill Douglas became acutely aware of tightening credit. Lacking a crystal ball, his gut instinct told him it was time to take action. After a series of meetings with the entire staff a plan emerged that not only would improve the company’s cash flow, but also significantly reduced their “footprint.”

The cornerstone of the plan was to convert over ½ of EssentiaLink’s Colorado employees into remote workers. This bold plan enabled them to cut their office requirements by 60%. Since most of their employees were commuting over 40 miles per day, allowing them to work from home has fundamentally increased the employee’s net income. This was particularly noticeable when gas prices were hovering around $4 per gallon. Not only did the remote worker plan have obvious financial rewards, there was a very real reduction in the carbon footprint required to run the company.

Then, by moving their servers to a secure data center that is designed for maximum security and efficiency, they were able to dramatically cut their power consumption. According to Mr. Douglas, “Our server room was 5 times larger than we needed. We were needlessly wasting a lot of energy and money just to keep the room temperature stable.”

A decision to enable remote workers can have tremendous financial and environmental benefits, but it is not something that should be entered into lightly. Before taking this course of action, all the employees should be involved in meetings and concerns addressed.

EssentiaLink earned a patent for their unique Supply Chain Solution and developed MaintenanceFreeIT, a scalable outsourcing solution that significantly reduces a company’s IT costs. These two services enable CEOs to focus their company resources on operational excellence instead of routine tasks.
