Arizona Adventure Awaits Unlikely Heroes in the New Thompson Twins Release

Northport, NY, February 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Outskirts Press author Terry Sclafani is back with the second of a trilogy of adventure books for young adults: The Thompson Twins Western Adventure. In this installment, danger and excitement once again surround Sammy and Nicky Thompson when their family moves to a ranch in the rugged mountains of Arizona.

Sammy and her twin, Nicky, are fun-loving, adventuresome kids who enjoy exploring their world, accompanied by Sammy’s Seeing Eye dog, Gus. Although Sammy has recently regained her sight after a tragic accident that left her blind for many months, Gus remains a beloved part of the family and plays a big role in the twins’ adventures.

“I’ve had great success with my first book,” Sclafani says. “I visit a lot of schools and talk to the children about the importance of reading. I especially enjoy reading the letters the children send me after they’ve read my book. Children can relate to my stories and imagine themselves as one of the characters in my adventures.” She is also proud that her first book, The Thompson Twins Cruise Adventure, is being produced in Braille. In Western Adventure, a blind girl and her guide dog visit the ranch and become part of the action, and a child with an artificial leg is a champion horse rider, another example of the way Sclafani rebels against the tendency to ignore “special” children in stories. As in all her books, Sclafani does not treat her physically challenged characters any differently than the others—and they all become heroes in some way.

The Thompson Twins Western Adventure continues in this vein of empowerment. The Thompson twins are devastated when they learn that their new horses have been stolen. Worse, Gus, the Seeing Eye dog, and the caretaker’s dog, Sierra, are also missing. The twins overhear the sheriff telling their father that the horse thieves were probably the reprehensible Watson brothers, who would most likely take the animals over the border to Mexico to sell them to Enrico Cruz, an extremely dangerous character. The twins then devise a daring plan to ride over the mountain and rescue them all. In their travels they face a mountain lion, a pack of wolves, and, worst of all, Enrico Cruz.

It is a grand and exciting adventure, and Sclafani’s lovable characters are sure to win the hearts of young adult readers everywhere.
