Miami Recession Victim Draws on Creative Talents in Fight to Survive
Foreclosure Looms, Bankruptcy in Sight, Citizen Strikes Back
Miami, FL, February 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- With threats of foreclosure, bankruptcy and no end in sight, C. Aisha Thompson of These Handmade Memories decided that rather than rolling over to accept the grim fate presented by the waning job market, she would brave the odds and draw on her alternative talents to make it through. With only creativity and a few basic materials, she started a handmade invitation company from her home in Miami Lakes, Florida.
In December of 2008, a month and a half after getting the news that the company she worked for was closing its doors, a letter arrived in Aisha’s mailbox. It was her mortgage company informing her that since she had no income, they would not negotiate a modified loan arrangement for her. She decided that she would find that source of income with or without traditional employment methods.
She began work on a set of handmade wedding invitation designs targeting both the modern and traditional bride. The designs emphasize color, texture, dimension and personality, pulling from a design ethic years in development.
