War Room Logistics, LLC Poll Shows Floridians Supportive of $1 Tax Increase on Cigarettes, But Differ on Details, Split on Federal "Freedom of Choice Act"
Gainesville, FL, February 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In a series of polls conducted among registered voters on January 28 and February 5, 2009, exploring the proposed increase in cigarette taxes illustrates that generally Floridians are supportive of an increase in the cigarette tax by a wide margin; however, opinions vary greatly when asked about different scenarios of implementation.
On a poll conducted January 28, 2009, the following was asked: “The Florida Legislature should increase taxes on cigarettes by one dollar over Florida’s current .34 cents per pack tax.”
52.9% Strongly Agree
17.1% Somewhat Agree
12.1 % Somewhat Disagree
14.1% Strongly Disagree
On a poll conducted February 5, 2009 further exploring the issue, WRL’s poll indicates the voters differ on how to implement a proposed increase in the cigarette sales tax:
· 27.0% of voters surveyed indicated that the state legislature should not increase the cigarette sales tax.
· 22.7% indicated that the Florida Legislature should increase cigarette taxes, but only if they decrease another tax by the same amount.
· 38.7% of the voters indicated that the Florida legislature should increase the cigarette sales tax not dependent on a decrease of any other tax.
In the same poll (2/5/2009), Florida voters are split on the federal “Freedom of Choice Act”.
· 41.9% Support the Freedom of Choice Act
· 43.7% Oppose the Freedome of Choice Act
· 14.4% are undecided.
The exact wording of the question was “There is a proposal in Congress called the “The Freedom of Choice Act.” This proposal would protect, consistent with Roe v. Wade, a woman’s freedom to choose to bear a child or terminate a pregnancy. This will ban most existing restrictions on abortion such as parental consent requirements for minors and waiting periods and make abortion legal up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. Do you support or oppose this proposal?”
