Artist Pollyanna Pickering Shortlisted for Women in Public Life Award
Derbyshire, United Kingdom, February 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Wildlife Artist Pollyanna Pickering is honoured to have been shortlisted for the Business Woman of the Year award at the Dods & Scottish Widows Women in Public Life Awards, which celebrate women leaders in society and seek to recognise and promote the work of women in politics, business, the civil service and community leadership.
The Awards which are now in their third year, aim to highlight the achievements of outstanding women role models amongst us, as chosen by British parliamentarians.
Just three names have made the shortlist for Businesswoman of the Year - Bryony Pawinska, Chief Executive of the College of Optometrists, Camila Batmanghelidjh, Founder and Director of Kids Company and Pollyanna who has been recognised for her artistic skills along with her drive, vision and talent as a pioneering businesswoman, and her commitment to worldwide conservation. Pollyanna is recognised as one of Europe's foremost wildlife artists, and is the most published fine artist in the UK. The award will be given to the most influential business woman that parliamentarians identify as having made an outstanding contribution within the business sector during the past year.
"It is amazing to have been selected for a shortlist of three from hundreds of entries from throughout the UK " Pollyanna told us "and I am looking forward very much to attending the ceremony and having the opportunity to meet some of the other inspirational women who have been nominated in all the different categories".
The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony to be held in March at the prestigious venue of London's Commonwealth club.
Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes has given her backing to the awards saying "Women are under represented in business, the arts and politics. These awards help to highlight and reward the achievements of women and encourage others to pursue leadership roles and to strive for greater representation."
