As Canada’s Unemployment Rate Rises, a Small New Media Firm Invests in Growth

Calgary, Canada, February 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Despite a rising unemployment rate across the country and a feeling of uneasiness in the pit of marketer’s stomachs everywhere as marketing budgets are cut across the country, a small new media firm in Calgary, Alberta is investing in its own growth. Hiring two new employees during the economic slowdown of the latter part of 2008 and early 2009 and actively seeking a third, Aquanode New Media Agency is bucking a trend being seen across the world.

In October 2008 Sheldon hired Cody Jassman as a Developer, while in late January 2009 Jennifer Wasilik stepped in as Aquanode’s new Marketing Coordinator and member of the Business Development Team. Cody, a graduate from the Media Production & Design Program at SAIT, says that “what [he] love most about working for Aquanode is the unique set of challenges that [he is] presented with everyday and the opportunity to find more efficient/better methods for building web pages that serve dynamic content.” Jennifer brings with her a long history of marketing and business development experience in a variety of industries and an Honours B.A. in English and Psychology from McMaster University, in Hamilton, Ontario. Being the newest member of the Aquanode team, and the only one who doesn’t speak complete “geek” poses a great opportunity for Jennifer, who feels that “it is in the best interest of the company to have someone that bridges the gap between technical talk and layman speak on board. I think it puts clients more at ease with the idea of having a website developed and helps them to feel more comfortable with their understanding of the whole process.”
