Ckarma Marketing Helps KickStart International Lift Thousands of Africans Out of Poverty
By developing a comprehensive global marketing and advertising campaign ckarma has helped increase sales of Kickstart's MoneyMaker irrigation pumps, lifting thousands of small scale farmers from poverty.
Denver, CO, February 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Ckarma marketing helps KickStart International lift thousands of small scale farmers from poverty through the branding and marketing of KickStart’s MoneyMaker irrigation pumps. By using the MoneyMaker irrigation pumps, poor farmers can grow and sell high-value vegetables and fruits to pay for food, healthcare and education, lifting their families out of poverty forever. Every pump sold generates income for a family of five.
The challenge for ckarma was to convince risk-averse farmers to purchase a technology unfamiliar to them and to show that this technology would help them make money. Ckarma’s answer was to develop a comprehensive Global marketing and advertising campaign for the manually operated irrigation pumps. “Farming is my Business” campaign utilized billboard ads, radio spots, and point-of-sale displays in authorized dealerships as well as on farm demonstrations.
“We are thrilled that the global branding and marketing campaign is working and we’ve seen extraordinary impacts and sales. What matters most is that now over 379,000 people are lifted from poverty to prosperity permanently.” Says Cindy Kerr, Founder of ckarma marketing.
To support the campaign launch in Kenya, ckarma created a promotion discounting pumps from May through December. “Imarisha Maisha promotion helped Kenyans get “back to business” after the post election violence and difficulties in January 2008. We are achieving aggressive targets through 178 Authorized dealers and the sales team has partnered with marketing efforts in a powerful way.” says Kerr.
Since the launch of the campaign, KickStart has seen over 600% increase in pump sales in Kenya. Cindy Kerr, founder of ckarma marketing has been partnering with KickStart International for two years and has been traveling between Denver and Kenya, Mali, and Tanzania to oversee the transformation of the MoneyMaker brand.
Creating a Global Brand
Ckarma developed a global brand for the MoneyMaker pumps that works in multiple countries, languages and cultures. The unified global brand has helped deliver a clear message across the four countries in which KickStart operates.
Prior to partnering with ckarma, KickStart did not have a centralized brand or marketing message. As a result sales collateral in shops and dealers was inconsistent. Sales were decreasing. Each country had a different brand, which was not creating impact. Now, the MoneyMaker brand is clearly recognizable to consumers in Kenya, Tanzania, Mali and Burkina Faso. Awareness is increasing. To ensure the brand will remain consistent in each country, ckarma created and trained a marketing staff to take over the marketing duties and help drive future efforts.
“It was exciting and challenging to create a global brand that would work in four languages and across differing African cultures.” Early results in Mali, West Africa where the campaign launched in December are promising and show increased pump sales.
