The Trend Funnel® idea was born when Mary Elizabeth Beal first recognized over-saturation of product resources and options in the interior design and home furnishings industry. Beal, a graduate from University of Florida’s FIDER accredited Interior Design program was working as visual merchandiser for a major furniture company and noticed the difficulty in getting access to unique home décor products for the collective 70,000 square feet of showroom space she designed. With the numerous product options available, Beal realized how time consuming it was to search through all of the available resources to make unique product selections (for an example, the keyword phrase “coastal furniture” resulted in an overwhelming number of 3,330,000 possible sites on Google). She recognized that if it was difficult for her, then it must be exhausting for home buyers, home sellers and do-it-yourselfers.
Beal was very aware of the numerous creative and talented craftsmen, local artisans, manufacturers and retailers producing distinctive products every day. But with average-sized advertising budgets, their products are hard-pressed to find themselves in front of the key individuals who would purchase the products most often. Many find their return on investment to be less than satisfactory in traditional advertising mediums.
