Albuquerque, NM, June 30, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The Albuquerque Cat Action Team (A.C.A.T.) invites New Mexicans to set a Guinness World Record on July 15th - the most people doing a shimmy at one time! The goal is to assemble at least 100 people to shimmy into the record books. The Raqs-a-Paw Belly Dance Event will be held at the Family Focus Center, 411 Monroe, NE on Saturday, July 15th.
People are encouraged participate so they can say they are part of a world record set here in Albuquerque. The event runs from 1 pm to 5 pm, with the world record attempt occurring at 2 pm; belly dance performances and a shimmy contest are also scheduled. Local belly dancers will be on hand to give a quick shimmy lesson before the record attempt. There is a $5.00 entrance donation at the door. All money will go to the A.C.A.T. medical fund and stray/feral cat fund. Vendors will be there. Volunteers are still needed.
The Albuquerque Cat Action Team, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, is the first no-kill foster-based group in Albuquerque dedicated exclusively to enhancing the lives of cats. All cats in A.C.A.T. are cared for in temporary foster homes until adoption and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
A.C.A.T. is comprised entirely of a group of dedicated volunteers. In just six years since its formation, A.C.A.T. has spayed and neutered 2,500 cats and has found loving, permanent homes for over 1,580 cats and kittens. Cats are shown for adoption every Saturday at PETCO (San Mateo and Academy) from 11 am to 4 pm.
Information about the Raqs-a-Paw Shimmy-a-thon can be found at www.albcat.com, emailing mail@albcat.com, or by calling 505-323-ACAT. Albuquerque Cat Action Team volunteers are available for interviews and photos are available on request.
