AIA Detroit and Lawrence Tech Faculty Members LeRoy and Veryser Headline Forum on Sustainable Architecture

Lawrence Tech in Southfield will host the free Feb. 17 event from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Detroit, MI, February 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Two members of the American Institute of Architects Detroit (AIA Detroit) chapter and Lawrence Tech University faculty members, Glen LeRoy, FAIA, and Joe Veryser, AIA, are among the featured expert speakers for a presentation entitled, “Sustainable Architecture: Building a Greener Michigan” on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The free event, which is open to the public and co-sponsored by Lawrence Tech, the U.S. Green Building Council and WWJ Newsradio 950, takes place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the campus of Lawrence Tech (UTLC Gallery, 21000 W. 10 Mile Road in Southfield). Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 5:30 p.m.

Some of the topics to be discussed include: the economic and societal trends driving the shift toward sustainable architecture; the latest in university research; the branding of Michigan as a “green belt;” and economic development opportunities.

LeRoy is an urban planner and Dean of LTU’s College of Architecture and Design. Veryser serves as director of the school’s Center for Sustainability. He also is the associate dean of LTU’s College of Architecture and Design.

Dan Jacobs, AIA, director of sustainability for A3C Collaborative Architects in Ann Arbor and chair of the Green Schools Advisory Committee for the United States Green Building Council, and Ryan LaFontaine, general manager of LaFontaine Automotive Group and a green building owner, are the other presenters.

Matt Roush, editor of the Great Lakes IT Report and technology editor at WWJ, will moderate the discussion.
