Newly Enhanced MÓNASHELL® Biofiltration Odor Control System Introduced by Bord Na Móna
Offering wastewater treatment and water reuse systems as well as odor treatment and voc abatement for municipal, decentralized or on-site community and commercial applications.
Greensboro, NC, February 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Bord na Móna Environmental Products U.S. Inc. today introduced their newly enhanced MÓNASHELL® Biofiltration Odor Control System at WEFTEC 2008 in Chicago, Illinois, at Booth #23208. With over 15 years experience, Bord na Móna has built up a wealth of expertise and knowledge in the field of air pollution with over 500 installations worldwide.
“Odor emitted from wastewater treatment processes is increasingly a concern as populations grow and housing encroaches upon once-remote treatment facilities,” said Shane Keaney, President of Bord na Móna Environmental Products U.S. Inc. “Odor is more than unpleasant. It derives from sulfurous compounds that can raise acidity and cause corrosion. Our newly enhanced MÓNASHELL Biofiltration System is a sustainable, low maintenance and low operating cost alternative to traditional carbon or chemical scrubbing. The reuse of waste shells as media maintains a neutral pH, allowing for highly effective biological treatment of odorous sulfur compounds in wastewater and industrial airstreams without the use of chemicals.”
According to Keaney, the MÓNASHELL system is designed to deliver significant, environmentally responsible benefits for wastewater pumping stations, wastewater treatment works, sludge-handling and treatment processors, municipal solid waste and composting centers, as well as various industrial facilities.
Keaney went on to say “MÓNASHELL is very effective for treating a broad range of compounds and high levels of H2S and Organic Sulfides. MÓNASHELL uses a smaller footprint than conventional biofilters and its offsite or onsite modular construction allows ease of installation.”
How can seashells do all of this?
“The waste airstream is directed into recirculating water within the MÓNASHELL unit, allowing contact between selected micro-organisms and odorous compounds. The harmless bacteria reside on the shell media, which contains high levels of CaCO3 and neutralizes acid byproducts of sulfide oxidation. The physical, structural and chemical properties of the media allow for smaller filters and higher efficiencies. By-products of MÓNASHELL biofiltration are harmless, clean and odor-free.” Keaney explained.
New Thinking For A New Era:
“MÓNASHELL is the most environmentally responsible odor treatment solution,” Keaney asserted today. “We at Bord na Móna are dedicated to developing state-of-the-art treatment solutions that are fundamentally green by nature. The solutions being introduced at WEFTEC 2008 reflect this commitment and are just the beginning of a new chapter that will see the introduction of many more environmental solutions over the coming years.”
Bord na Móna are proud to showcase their extensive range of odor control and wastewater treatment solutions at WEFTEC 2008 and will have working models of each system on the booth to help demonstrate the technologies. Ian Phillips, the original inventor of the MÓNASHELL Biofiltration System will present a paper at WEFTEC entitled “Development of Innovative Solutions for Biological Treatment of Odor and VOC Emissions from Municipal Wastewater Treatment Applications.” Ian, Shane and their colleagues will be at Booth #23208 throughout the exhibition and would be delighted to answer any problems or questions.
